AniMaC Bunkasai Cosplay Competition '09 (Last updated: 16th February 2009)

Cosplay cosplay!! Finally we are proud to bring you this competition! Registration is FREE!! Just join and win GREAT prizes!!

Here are some rules that you need to follow...
(Registration form can be found below)

• The cosplay contest is open to any competitor, or group of competitors, ages 13-28 entering a costume that has been sourced from Japanese popular culture. These sources include (but are not restricted to) Anime; Manga and Video Games (console and computer).

• The contest is limited to the first 25 entries. Please fill out the entry form below. Space permitting, you may register at the day of the Festival. Those participating in the cosplay contest must check in with the Bunkasai volunteers between 1:00p.m. - 4:00 p.m. on March 5th, 2009. The due date for the Form submission is 2nd March 2009. Late submissions will not be entertained except any reasonable reasons.

• Your costumes can be purchased, or made for you by a professional designer or seamstress.

• "Found Item" costumes are allowed. (This is basically a costume that was built by collecting various pieces from normal clothing stores and combining them or altering them in a unique way, with or without sewing.)

• Costumes must be appropriate for a general audience. Please cover at least that of a swimsuit; if it's too skimpy for the pool, it's too skimpy for the library. Please take note, if your costume is judged by staff to be too risqué, derogatory, sexual in nature or inappropriate in any other way, you may be asked to alter your costume or you will not be allowed to participate in the contest.

• Safety first. No metal weapons of any kind will be permitted in or around the venue. Any weapons must be made of wood, plastic, foam or other like substances.

• Skits are permitted, encouraged even, but keep them PG. This means no profanity, racism or overtly sexual content. You will receive only 2 minutes to set up, perform and take down your skit. Time limits will be strictly enforced!

• No messy substances will be allowed onstage. This includes throwing confetti, splashing someone with water, etc. If it comes onstage with you, it leaves with you. You are your own stage ninja.

• No fire, flash powder, lasers, explosives, smoke, or open flame of any kind will be allowed.

• If your skit includes music, dialog or sound effects, a CD containing ONLY your skit must be given to the Bunkasai Night volunteers when you check in. The CD must be clearly labeled with your name, or the name of your group.

• At the time of check in, you will receive a number. This determines the order in which you will present your costume. These numbers are non-negotiable and non-transferable.

• Participants are solely judged on craftsmanship (design, construction, execution, and general presentation of costume). Craftsmanship is judged before the contest. Registration and pre-judging is required. Pre-registration is strongly encouraged. Contestants must be on hand during the costume contest in order to be qualified to win an award.

• Pre-Judging is closed to the public. Only contestants and Parents of minors are allowed in the judging room. Parents are required to attend pre-judging with youth entries if they are under 10 years of age or if they helped in the construction of the costume (an exception will be made if a costume is too big for one person and that contestant may have no more than ONE helper). NO PHOTOGRAPHY ALLOWED IN JUDGING ROOM.

• No noxious and messy substances e.g. wet, dry, oily will be allowed backstage or on stage that might ruin the costume of any other contestant during the competition. No food or drinks will be allowed on or back stage.

• You are required to bring proper documentation. A completed registration form and pictures of your costume must be included. All contestants must agree to and sign our costuming policy.

• The decision of the Cosplay Contest Judges and the Bunksai Festival Coordinators is final.
